Jose Mourinho is wasting no time getting his house in order at Chelsea, with The Sun newspaper reporting he is keen on bringing Luka Modric with him to Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese tactician is leaving Real Madrid this summer and looks all but certain to take over from Rafa Benitez at his former club Chelsea. Having worked with Modric at the Bernabeu, Mourinho is set to launch a £30 million bid for the Croatian playmaker - the same amount he spent to bring Modric from Tottenham to Madrid.
Modric has struggled to settle in to life in Spain and is claimed to be eager for a return to the Premier League. That said, Carlo Ancelotti, expected to replace Mourinho at Madrid, is known to be a fan of Modric, so he may just stay put.
Across London at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger is continuing his pursuit of wantaway Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. The Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail report that Rooney remains top of Wenger's wishlist after putting in a transfer request a matter of weeks ago.
Rooney's £250,000-per-week wages could prove a sticking point to a potential deal, but it is believed the forward would prefer to remain in England instead of moving to Monaco or Paris Saint-Germain, who are also apparently interested in signing him.
Manchester City have been joined by Real Madrid in the race to sign Napoli's Edinson Cavani, according to The Sun. Chelsea have withdrawn their interest in the striker, while Cavani is not expected to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Key to City's bid for Cavani is Edin Dzeko, who they hope to use in a part-exchange deal. Real, though, may be forced to part with as much as £60 million to secure Cavani's services.
Finally, Porto winger Christian Atsu is on the radar of Premier League outfit Liverpool. The Daily Mirror claims Atsu could come in to replace Stewart Downing and Oussama Assaidi. Atsu has a £10 million release clause in his contract, but with only a year to run the Reds hope that an offer in the region of £3 million will be accepted.
