Ronaldinho has said he still hopes to play for Brazil at the 2014 World Cup despite failing to make the country's squad for this summer's Confederations Cup.
But he insisted the setback would motivate him to "try to play better and be recalled in the future". Scolari said he had made what he felt were the best decisions for the team. The 33-year-old midfielder said he was surprised to have been omitted from Felipe Scolari's 23-man party for the June tournament.
Ronaldinho, who has won rave reviews for his club performances at Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro, said: "I wanted to be on the list, and I was hopeful - but it didn't happen the way I wanted.
"But this motivates me even more to try to play better and be recalled in the future. There's still a long way to go until the World Cup, and my goal remains the same.
"I think it surprised a lot of people because of how well my team is playing and because I'm going through a good moment right now.''
Ronaldinho, twice FIFA Player of the Year, had spoken of wanting to bring down the curtain on his career by playing in a World Cup in his home country.
He was part of Scolari's 2002 World Cup-winning side and, when the coach returned to the national job, he had predicted that the playmaker to become the leader of his team.
His Atletico Mineiro team-mate Jo said: "He has a lot of experience and he has gone through a lot in his career, so can rebound from this.
